Art Fight 2023

This year’s Art Fight is breathing down my neck, and since I plan to do things a bit differently this year, I figure I should start getting the word out before I disappoint those that are lining up to attack me.

Art Fight Profile: [https://artfight.net/~KiRAWRa]

A brief explanation: Art Fight (Artfight.net) is an annual art-trading event that takes place during the full month of July. In that time, two teams “attack” each other by drawing giftart of the other team’s OCs for points. Despite the whole thing being framed in the context of a competition, it’s incredibly fun and sweet and full of amazing artists. It’s genuinely my most favorite event of the year and I look forward to going all-out every time.

The thing is, even though return attacks (revenges) are not to be required or expected, I have made it my personal mission to revenge every person who has ever attacked me, even across previous years. Over time, this reputation has led me to receive a pretty staggering amount of attacks, and I’ve started each year off at a bigger and bigger deficit since I can’t keep up with the influx.

Starting off, I already owe 71 revenges from last year, which will likely take me a full week to complete (from the limited four weeks that comprises Art Fight). Last year I received over 200 attacks, and since my own highest record for the most artworks done during an event is 176, there’s clearly no possible way I could catch up if I leave my characters open to attack.

But.. I also hate having to hide my characters. It’s frustrating for people trying to find/draw them, it’s confusing when I have to hide/unhide them because someone drew them while they were hidden, and it’s just generally not fun to “hide” during my most favorite event of the year. Hiding characters doesn’t just make them un-attackable, it also disables links and makes it impossible for people to discover and bookmark them for later.

So that’s why I’m trying something a bit different this year. I want to leave my characters open, but with a few caveats that I really hope people are willing to respect. I spend so much time just trying to keep up with revenges that I barely have any time at all to attack first or draw what I want. I’ve had characters bookmarked for years that I’ve never had a chance to draw.

I know what you’re thinking - “KiRAWRa, you can just draw what you want at any time. You’re the only one putting the “must revenge every attack” burden on yourself.”
While that is completely correct, I also can’t just let go of my ambitions quite that easily. Art Fight is my yearly excuse to go hard and push myself, and see what I can truly accomplish. I fully admit that my habits are unhealthy and I do not recommend anyone imitate me, but I look forward to going absolutely batshit and running myself into the ground during this one month.

And so, even if you claim you don’t expect or want a revenge (many people have), you WILL get one. I take these numbers on my profile extremely seriously, and it fills me with so much pride to be able to say I’ve given back in equal measure to what I’ve received (at least in quantity).

This year, I ask that you please DO NOT attack me, unless:

  • We are mutuals/I follow you (on any website)

  • I attacked you first and you are revenging

  • You have never received any art from me before (including commissions)

I’ll be aiming to break my current record and achieve 200 artworks this year (I wanted to reach 200 last year, but I caught covid 😩). Worst-case-scenario: Either people don’t respect my restrictions or I still receive too many new attacks and end up having to hide my characters anyway.

But if I’m able to keep pace this year and not end on another huge deficit, I plan to remove the restrictions and return to normal next year (2024).

Thank you for understanding, and if you need any clarification about whether or not you qualify to attack me, please ask! ♥
